Emerging and National Donors

The group of the UNODC Emerging and National Donors consists of governments that have either started contributing to the UNODC budget recently and/or provide funding to UNODC activities in their own countries. Currently this group includes 40 countries. In 2007 it provided 21 per cent of the total amount of voluntary contributions received by UNODC.

The largest contribution in 2007 within this group of donors was provided by the United Arab Emirates committing US$14,800,887 to UN.GIFT - the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking - conceived as an international partnership to coordinate the global fight against human trafficking.

The Government of Colombia also contributed significantly - US$12,221,513 in total for various UNODC activities implemented in the country.

In 2007, the largest General Purpose contribution to support core infrastructure of UNODC came from the Czech Republic (US$112,120), followed by India (US$103,000), Russian Federation (US$100,000) and Mexico (US$100,000).

Brazil, Colombia and Mexico continued to provide significant contributions for the running of UNODC offices in their countries (cost-sharing).
